Synopsis
GREENLAND is a compact level dedicated to the green weapons: plasma, quad4, and smart missiles. The limited arsenal provides a straight up game for those eager to get down to business.

vs. kufyit
"kufyit challenged me to a game of d1 greenland one evening. This was right in the middle of our 10 game stint that pissed the hell out of the rest of the UT. :) I believe he called me modem. This game ended up being the worst come-back loss I have ever been dealt. I spent the first half of the game hanging out between the two main rooms and catching kufyit in transition between the tunnels and the dogfight rooms. Dogfight after dogfight I just beat the hell out of him. It was looking like an easy win for me. Then wouldn't you know it, the modem connection disconnected and he had to call again at the score of about 14-7 me. Well, when we reconnected and went at it, he refused to come out into the rooms. I mean there was never a dogfight the rest of the match. Now, that annoyed the hell out of me but I'll grant him that it was probably the smartest move he could make, considering the success he was having in dogfights that game ;) Every time I saw him the rest of the game he would fire between 2 and 4 smarts at me. He dragged out the action something terrible in this manner and frustrated me to no end. Most of the time I could dodge the 20 green smartlets that were homing on me from everywhichway but the times where he would fill in the only save dodging path with plasma shots were what got him the kills. Nothing too terribly sneaky here, just good old fashioned missile-boating. He boated the hell out of me, anchored me, and sank me like the sad, worn out dingy I was. I'm looking forward to a rematch there sometime."

"It was right after a match with me in Greenland that kufyit decided to make it his D1 home. He has had several, but I think this one really suits his style. Our game was very close. He didn't give up any free kills. I had to earn all 20 the hard way, and the game was not only tense, but very exciting. I had a great time."

G REENLAND is the first level Sirian designed from scratch specifically for D1. The level is small. There are two dogfight rooms, the reactor room, and a few tunnels to add a bit of spice. Although this level contains only plasma and quad4s, there are four sets of each, so rearming only becomes a factor if all the items collect in one area. With three smart missiles, there are just enough to complicate what would otherwise be a strict gunfight level.

There is an armory showcase with plenty of goodies, but they are all locked away and inaccessible. Your choice is simple: plasma or quads. Missiles tend to respawn in either the reactor room or the armory area, both of which are tucked behind secret doors. Letting your opponent get all the missiles is a bad idea.

There aren't very many tricks to this level. You fight, and someone dies. In a way, it represents the basics of Descent. You can try a little misdirection with the doors, and stealthy movement through the tunnels can give you an edge, but in the end, you'll have to hold up in a dogfight again and again. It's that simple. We give this classic an Overall Rating of 9

Greenland Pro
Greenland Pro is the D2 version. The only difference is the addition of three guided missiles, some afterburners and a convertor, which combine to up the tempo a bit compared to the original version. Sirian added in some signs poking fun at any players who complain about the weapon mix. Overall Rating: 9
